Wokingham Borough Council has provided the
following guidance which can be found in more detail on the school
transport page of their website
(or other home LA if applicable).
“For any pupils aged 11 to 16 years old,
transport assistance can be considered where your child attends a
designated area school. Transport can also be considered in the
relatively few cases* where the school attended, although not a
designated area school, is the nearest available school by radial
distance. Transport in either case will only be provided if your
child lives more than three miles from the school by the shortest
safe walking route, unless there is no safe walking
*(this was written prior to the proposed
establishment of Oakbank)
If Oakbank is chosen in preference to a nearer
available school, transport would be parents’ responsibility (this
would equally apply to a non-designated area maintained school).
Please note that in addition to the above, the enhanced statutory
entitlement for low income families is still in force nationally
(to any of 3 nearest available schools, if shortest walking
distance is more than 2miles).
Applicants will need to apply to their home
LA, under that LA’s policy, if not WBC-resident. WBC will in all
cases only confirm entitlement on written application to their
transport team (the team is aware to anticipate Oakbank
